Spring Show Season

0

OK, so we’re coming up on mid-March here and it still looks like mid-winter. Nevertheless, spring show season starts in 3 weeks with the North American Alpaca Show. We’re showing 5 of our males – one adult, one yearling and three juveniles. Only one of the five is currently lead trained. All the alpacas are living in snowy, sometimes muddy, paddocks that do little for their appearance. Lead training needs to be done, but I don’t like to train on icy surfaces which is what we’ve had a lot of with weather that keeps alternating snow and rain.  Our one last hurdle will be trying to get the trailer out of here and headed to the show on muddy, rutted roads.

In spite of all this, things really do manage to come together in spite of the sometimes miserable conditions in northern Vermont this time of year. Once the show season kicks off, spring is officially here and things start to get crazy. Shearing, birthing, breeding – all the things we’ve taken a break from for the past few months will swing into high gear.
