Show string evaluation

0

Just when things start to slow down for us, they start right back up again with registering and planning for spring shows. Our first show of the season is the North American Alpaca Show in Mass. Registration opened yesterday, so we spent some time the other day reevaluating our 2010 crias for showing.

We shear our crias at some point during the summer they’re born, so we have to wait a few months for their fiber to grow back so we can see what we have.  It’s always fun to take a close look at a fleece you’ve only been seeing from the outside and open it up to see beautiful lustrous, crimpy fiber. There’s so much satisfaction in seeing good results from your breeding choices. We decided on one adult, one yearling and three juvenile males to show this spring. Several other younger males will be reevaluated for showing in the fall.
