More and more often other breeders are requesting that we sell their alpacas on a consignment basis. Some of these folks are getting out of the business and others simply want to downsize their herds, but have little time for or experience in the marketing side of the business
Ron and I took some time this week to visit a couple of farms who will be sending alpacas to us for sale. We spent a few hours at Green Vale Farm in Albany, VT checking out some of the female alpacas they would like to sell. This farm is staying in business, but is looking to downsize a bit. With the owner, we decided to start by bringing two of their young females to our farm to sell.
Yesterday we finally had a chance to visit our friends at Starry Mountain Farm in Grafton, VT. This is a lovely, off-grid farm on a rugged hillside on one of Vermont’s most charming villages. The property will soon be listed for sale as the owners are leaving the alpaca business to start a new adventure in Costa Rica! This was their plan when they started their farm and, since their timing coincides with a down economy, their very high quality alpacas are for sale at very reasonable prices.
