Wow – didn’t fall fiber festival season just begin? Well, it’s over for us! In past years, we’ve done more events and had a longer season. But we’ve eliminated festivals that were not convenient or good markets for us and this year scheduled only two. The last one of the season was this past weekend…
Seems like we just finished up with spring shows! Where did summer go?? We finally managed to complete our registrations for the upcoming fall alpaca shows. Snowshoe Farm will be attending both the Green Mountain Alpacas Fall Spectacular on Oct 19 & 20 and the Empire Alpaca Extravaganza on Oct 26 & 27. We (Ron, actually)…
This coming weekend (September 28 & 29) will bring the 25th Annual Vermont Sheep & Wool Festival. This is the kickoff to our very busy fall season of fiber festivals and alpaca shows. The Vermont festival is, of course, one of our favorites. There’s something for everyone from luscious farm-raised fibers and yarn to sheep…
It look like it’s going to be a great weekend for PAMfest, the Peacham Acoustic Music Festival, this coming Friday and Saturday, Aug 16 & 17. The Festival includes a Craft Fair on Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Snowshoe Farm will be vending at the Craft Fair with a great selection of alpaca yarns. Please…
I’d venture to say that most alpaca breeders don’t shear their crias until the spring following the crias’ births. But those cria fleeces become messy very quickly as their fine, velcro-like tips attract hay and other debris. We’ve learned that we can get much cleaner and more valuable fleeces in the spring if we shear…
Finally! We’ve been waiting for weeks for the first cria of the season to arrive. The first female due was Rosita, who usually goes at least week or two early. Not this year. She didn’t even go first; her daughter, Glinda, had the first cria of the year. Oddly enough, both babies were born late…
It’s over! And with the help of very good friends, shearing not only was not painful, it was actually fun! Many, many thanks to Larry from Twilight Ridge Farm, Jane from Berry Hill Alpacas and, last but not least, Kathy and Tracey from Foggy Bottom Ranch who went above and beyond to help us. For…
After many requests from customers and just a bit of procrastinating on my part, I am getting ready to launch an e-newsletter featuring Alpaca Fiber & Yarn from Snowshoe Farm. I plan to use this platform not only to announce the addition of new yarns or other fiber-related products, but to offer discounts, free patterns…
Finally! Our online farm store is live again after months of inactivity. The fall fiber festivals depleted our inventory and we’ve been working hard to skein, wash and dye yarn. You can now purchase alpaca yarn, alpaca roving, knitting needles, crochet hooks and dyes from our online store at www.VermontAlpacaYarn.com. We will be adding patterns…
We’re packed up and ready to head to the annual Vermont Farm Show. Lets hope this snow let’s up tonight and plow comes through early in the morning! This will be the second year in the new location at the Champlain Valley Fairgrounds in Essex Junction. We’ll be there tomorrow with alpacas. Just look for…
