Snowshoe Farm is in the middle of our rather short spring show season (two shows). Nationals is behind us. At that event, we offered a yearling female, Snowshoe Ginger, for sale in the auction and are pleased to announce that the winning bidder was Hickory Meadow Alpaca Farm. We hope this beautiful daughter of Snowshoe Aristides…
Over the years, we’ve responded to several requests from clients and friends who have been forced to disperse their herds due to health problems or other life changing issues. As a result, we sometimes have alpacas listed for sale that are being offered on a consignment basis. Currently, we have two such groups of alpacas….
We’re trying something new this year – entering an alpaca in an auction. Since we are traveling to Harrisburg for the AOBA National Conference and Show, we decided to enter an alpaca in the auction that is held as part of the event. We received confirmation this week that Snowshoe Ginger has been accepted for…
Don’t forget there are just a few weeks left to save 20% on all 2014 stud fees! This includes breedings to our multi-champion herdsire, Snowshoe Aristides. Visit the herdsire page on our website. We are also featuring our finest and youngest female alpacas at special prices. Take $1000 off the list price of any one…
It’s time to start introducing the offspring of our Champion herdsire, Snowshoe Aristides. We’ll start with Snowshoe Cari. This white yearling female has done consistently well in the show ring, taking a third place ribbon in four consecutive shows. Cari has lovely fiber and a sweet disposition. She has excellent potential for producing award-winning offspring…
I’d venture to say that most alpaca breeders don’t shear their crias until the spring following the crias’ births. But those cria fleeces become messy very quickly as their fine, velcro-like tips attract hay and other debris. We’ve learned that we can get much cleaner and more valuable fleeces in the spring if we shear…
And a big “Thank you!” to the folks at Blumenau Alpacas in Indiana for their purchase of Jubellita’s Jinx. This young, ribbon-winning male has extremely fine fiber and is the offspring of our 10x Champion/Reserve Champion herdsire, Snowshoe Aristides. Jinx will be two years old this summer and ready to begin his breeding career. We…
Now that we’re experiencing some milder days, it’s time to get out the camera and update our sale photos. This is also a good time to do a little lead training while getting better shots of individual alpacas. The other day we took Electra out for a little walk and got a nice pic of…
Just a reminder that our YEAR END SALE is over in a few weeks. Until the end of Dec, you can take 20% off the price of any alpaca on our sales list. You can also reserve a breeding for 2013 with a $250 deposit before the end of the year. And you don’t have…
People often ask us how we can bear to sell our alpacas. Usually when a cria is born, we have an idea whether or not that cria might be offered for sale. Starting out from that point of view helps a bit. But you do get attached to some animals more than others. One of…
