Knitting Projects with Snowshoe Farm Alpaca Yarn

Lace shawls and shawlettes are very popular knitting projects and there’s no better use for a luxuriously fine, drapey alpaca yarn. I just finished the Annis shawlette in 100% hand dyed alpaca from Snowshoe Farm. Annis is a fairly easy pattern. Just be sure to set up for the nupps by working LOOSELY on the knit side. Trust me, it will make the purl 7 together on the purl side work a lot more easily. You can download the pattern … Read More

Last fiber festival of the season

Wow – didn’t fall fiber festival season just begin?  Well, it’s over for us!  In past years, we’ve done more events and had a longer season. But we’ve eliminated festivals that were not convenient or good markets for us and this year scheduled only two. The last one of the season was this past weekend in Rhinebeck, NY. The NYS Sheep & Wool Festival is an amazing event and one that we really enjoy. This year the weather was perfect … Read More

Fiber Festival of New England

Snowshoe Farm had a fabulous time at the NYS Sheep & Wool Festival in Rhinebeck last weekend! The weather was perfect and the crowds were huge. But with only two weeks between fiber festivals, I’m busy skeining and dyeing for the next event. The Fiber Festival of New England will be held at Eastern States Exposition in Springfield, MA on Nov 3 & 4. This is a great show in one large building, making it warm and dry no matter … Read More

Room with a View

This is the view from my fiber studio. It’s not very exciting on this gray day, but it’s looking a lot like Fall and we love it. And the alpacas, who have quite a bit of fleece grown back by this time of year, love the cooler temps. This is a busy room this time of year as we get ready for Fall fiber festivals. As usual, we have a nice selection of natural colored alpaca yarn as well as … Read More

Fall Fiber Festivals

Fall is fast approaching and that means it’s almost fiber festival time! We’ve received a few new shipments of our alpaca yarn back from the mill. Much of the white and light colored yarn will be dyed like the 100% alpaca fingering shown in the photo. We also have natural colored alpaca yarn ranging from white to very dark brown. This year we have a new sock yarn that’s a blend of alpaca, wool and tencel (to replace the nylon). … Read More

New Fiber Products!

posted in: Fiber, socks, vermont fibers | 1

Snowshoe Farm, along with two other Vermont fiber farms, is eagerly awaiting our first batch of socks from our farms’ fiber. Early last year we joined with Vermont Grand View Farm and Stonesthrow Farm to combine our different natural fibers to produce what we hope will be a very nice mix for socks. We sent the mix of alpaca, wool and mohair to Zeilinger’s to be spun and knit into socks. The first batch of socks is on its way … Read More

Green Mountain Fiber Festival

I’m all packed up and ready to head to White River Junction tomorrow morning for the Green Mountain Fiber Festival.  This will be the last festival is what has been a very busy fall season. I really enjoy participating in fiber festivals, seeing so many of our old friends and customers and meeting new ones. Nothing beats getting out and seeing all the wonderful new fibery creations from both vendors and the public to get one inspired to start new … Read More

Dyeing yarn

The NYS Sheep & Wool Festival is coming up next weekend and we’re busy getting ready. We have a nice selection of alpaca and alpaca blend yarns we’ll be taking to the festival. The last of the white DK yarn is skeined and washed and dry – ready to label. Today I’m handpainting sock yarn. There’s more yarn to be skeined and washed tomorrow so things dry before packing up on Thurs. I have some knitting to do to – … Read More

Sheep & Wool Festival season

We had a great weekend at the annual Vermont Sheep & Wool Festival. Saturday was rainy and cold but Sunday was drier and milder. A little rain never deters the serious fiber enthusiasts; it was fun to see many of our old fiber friends and meet many new ones. Thanks to all who purchased alpaca yarn, fiber, etc from Snowshoe Farm! We have a two-week break to stock up, skein and dye yarn, skirt fleeces and get ready for the … Read More
