Last year I was invited to dye some of our alpaca yarn for felted pillows. I worked with Alison at woollymama fiber arts and her client who was looking for several pillows to match the colors in her rug. Our first cria of 2010 was born prematurely last Tuesday. He needed support for the first few days, but finally seems to be nursing well on his own. I’ll watch him carefully during this week’s hot weather to be sure he doesn’t overheat and dehydrate. Several females are ready to give birth any day now….I’m spending most of my day and back and forth to the barn checking on the preggos.
What a great day! Warm and sunny. The first snowdrops are poking through the mulch around the big maple tree in the front yard. Rhubarb is poking up from an open spot in the garden. Most of our yard and fields are still covered with snow, but it’s melting fast. And so far, mud season has been mild to nonexistent, at least in the road.
