We always make a point of reviewing our herd of alpacas around the first of the year with an eye towards spring alpaca shows, the upcoming birthing and breeding season and updating our sales list. It’s exciting to see last year’s crias now growing into beautiful and healthy young alpacas ready for weaning…and maybe showing. This year we are going to try to offer at least one alpaca at a special price every month. For January, we’re featuring Snowshoe Pleione. … Read More

As we look through our listings of alpacas for sale, we see that we have a number of very good quality breeding females that are currently open. In many cases, this is because these females have been replaced by their daughters in our breeding program. Like many farms, we often package several alpacas together and offer the group at a discounted price. This is generally to help a client sell the last of their herd or maybe to rehome a few geldings as a group. But the other package deal we offer as standard practice is what we call a “3-in-1 package” that includes a bred female with a free breeding. We also go one step further and allow that free breeding to be transferred to … Read More
Last weekend (Oct 21 – 23) Ron took three yearling alpacas to the Showtacular alpaca show in Syracuse. This show combines the Empire Show and the NEAOBA Show into one long weekend. We were very pleased that all three of our alpacas ribboned in both shows against some very tough competition. The best result of the weekend was a second place finish by Snowshoe Sweet Cicley in the NEAOBA Show. This beautiful yearling female will be ready to breed in … Read More
Ron has had another busy season building livestock fencing for clients. This latest installation will serve to contain animals of various species and sizes, so it includes a tall no-climb fence with a hot wire along the top. The season for fence installation is quite short, since it doesn’t start until shearing season is over in late June. If you have a need for new or improved fencing, please contact Ron to discuss your options.

Recently I was asked how early we can assess the quality of an alpaca. I’ve been asked this question before and I usually reply that we generally wait until after the cria’s first “real” shearing (not the shearing that happens a few weeks after birth) and see how the fiber grows back. We don’t assume crias with fine fiber will mature into adults – or even yearlings – with fine fiber. We like to wait and see it happen. In … Read More
