October Events

There are too many October events!  This year will mark the first time in MANY years that Snowshoe Farm will not be participating in the fall alpaca shows. We did not make this decision lightly, but it makes the most sense for us.  This year, as happens every few years, the fall show in Syracuse conflicts with the NYS Sheep & Wool Festival in Rhinebeck, NY.  The Rhinebeck festival is a big event where we sell a LOT of alpaca … Read More

August Events

Snowshoe Farm will be selling our alpaca yarn and roving at two events in August. Tomorrow, August 9, we will be at the Summer Buy Local Market at the State House in Montpelier, VT. The market hours are 3 to 6:30pm. The weather forecast looks great, so come out and join in the fun. On Saturday, August 19, we will be at the craft fair at the Peacham Acoustic Music Festival. This two-day event takes over our small village each … Read More

Snowshoe Ammonoosuc

On July 4th this year, Snowshoe Ammonoosuc’s first cria was born. Ammonoosuc is the full brother to our multi-champion, Snowshoe Aristides, who is now owned by Little Creek Farm. This cria is more than we could have hoped for and shows us that Ammo is truly following in the footsteps of his big brother. Ammonoosuc is available for breeding. To celebrate his first cria, we are offering a limited number of drive-by breedings to Ammonoosuc for $500 for the month … Read More

Slow clothes

Yes, we do have some options for local and sustainably created clothing. We recently had the pleasure of meeting Hannah Regier, a Vermont-based fiber artist. Hannah produces knit hats fashioned from Vermont wool and alpaca fibers, hand-dyed with farmed and foraged plants and knit on a vintage knitting machine. We’re please to have our alpaca fiber included in this excellent example of local, ethical fashion. You can read more about Hannah’s creative process and purchase her hats on her website, … Read More

RIP Hannah’s Julie

The first cria born on our farm held a very special place in our hearts.  Hannah’s Julie was born on a very cold and windy January day in 2000. As a result, she, her dam, and the one other alpaca on our small farm spent the better part of the next couple weeks living in our walk-in basement. Other than the weather, Julie was off to a strong and healthy start. We made a very common mistake with our first … Read More

Female Alpaca – Sale!

We always make a point of reviewing our herd of alpacas around the first of the year with an eye towards spring alpaca shows, the upcoming birthing and breeding season and updating our sales list. It’s exciting to see last year’s crias now growing into beautiful and healthy young alpacas ready for weaning…and maybe showing. This year we are going to try to offer at least one alpaca at a special price every month. For January, we’re featuring Snowshoe Pleione. … Read More
